- Firstly, pour the tequila in a caballito which is similar to any tequila glasses only that it is a bit slimmer and taller (It is the standard 2 oz though).
- But they don’t lick lime, instead they take a sip of sangrita, which is a blend of tomato and orange juice, with salt and spiced with chillies.
In many European countries such as Germany, Tequila is often drunk with cinnamon (replacing salt) and orange slices (replacing lime). This combination is very interesting and, if you also think the same, you should give it a try.
The most important point to note here is that tequila varieties such as añejo (aged minimum 1 year) or extra añejo (aged minimum 3 years) are not drunk as shots. These are drunk mostly in snifters, just like you drink neat cognac. This helps in increasing the aroma of these types of tequila.
Popularly, tequila is served iced cold but is often drunk at normal room temperature by the Mexicans. Tequila is also used in making various cocktails. Margarita, which is the most popular cocktail, is also made with tequila.
Just remember one thing that there is no particular way to have a drink, and most importantly to enjoy it. Tequila is no different. Drink it the way you think you will enjoy it, and forget the rest (after a couple of shots you will anyway!). After all, it is about enjoying the drink rather than thinking about the right way to drink it.
